If you intend to buy a compact Apple laptop (say between 11 and 13 “), you’re spoiled for choice between the MacBook Air, MacBook, MacBook Pro and the MacBook Pro Retina.
Many criteria are taken into account: power, or not Retina display, the Touch Trackpad Force, autonomy, the amount of storage, graphics performance or (and perhaps especially) the price.
Indeed, the cheapest Apple laptop starts at 999 €. This is obviously the MacBook Air 11 “, which features a Core i5 1.6 GHz, 4GB of memory and 128GB of storage space. The most expensive costs twice as much. This is the Retina MacBook Pro 13 “. Sold € 1999, it features a Core i5 2.9 GHz, 8 GB of memory, 512 GB of storage space. The addition may even go up to € 2,949 if you inflate the block configuration: Core i7 3.1 GHz, 16 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space.
MacBook: a difficult place to find
The challenge for Apple will be to achieve a place in the MacBook. More expensive than the MacBook Air, it is also less powerful. Do the benefits reach to make a difference? In addition to its increased smoothness and light weight, it has the Touch trackpad Force (read: The Force Touch trackpad will add a dimension to interfaces), comes in several colors (an argument that seems to be important if we are to believe the results of the recent survey), and unlike the MacBook Air, it has a Retina display.
Apple makes much of the fact that the machine has a single port, true multitasking, but it is not certain that the user sees this as a step forward. Especially MagSafe (and its magnetic connection) is praised for years by millions of users.
We can not over-muscle this MacBook. Its presentation form, Apple raises the possibility of including a slightly more powerful processor: Intel Core M processor 1.3GHz (with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz), against a Core 1.1 M GHz for the entry level and 1.2 GHz for the high end. A priori, we can not provide it with 16GB of RAM or SSD 1TB.
But this model is not necessarily intended to become a bestseller. Moreover, the production volumes are relatively low if one believes an indiscretion Ming-Chi Kuo (read: MacBook: few sales at its output, but a long-term influence).
This new computer technology demonstration also figure it is possible to do in 2015, just as was the first MacBook Air in his time. Without a doubt, many of its innovations (visible or not) end up in other machines in the range. This has already begun with Force Touch (read: A small MacBook announcing upheaval).
This MacBook is often presented as the new MacBook Air, which it shares DNA. You can also see it as an iPad with keyboard … which benefits from the power and OS X. Opening
MacBook Air: MacBook for all
Until the new MacBook is democratized, the machine which should attract the largest number in its price / quality ratio, the MacBook Air.
The ultra-portable Apple has no Retina display, but its definition either in 11 “(1366 x 768) than 13” (1440 by 900) is far from ridiculous. In terms of connectivity, it is the exact opposite of the MacBook. Everything is almost: 3 USB, Thunderbolt 2, SD card reader on the 13 “… Finally, the couple CPU / GPU is much more efficient than the new MacBook.
Too bad Apple MacBook Air flange on some options. We regret that it is not possible to provide 16 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage space. This “ultimate” configuration could bring happiness to all those who do not have the need for a Retina display.
MacBook Pro 13 “: the relic
Beside the new MacBook, MacBook Pro 13 “figure is old ancestor. It will celebrate its third candle June. Nothing has changed since if this is the price that has taken € 100 there two weeks.
It is heavy, its processor is clumsy, hard drive is slow, its time chipset, the definition of the screen is limited … In short, it was not much for him unless we can fully customize the so- even (change the RAM, hard drive) and it has a SuperDrive. But for the latter, is it still an advantage in 2015?
Retina MacBook Pro 13 “: anti-MacBook?
Abundance. Here’s how it could be summarized in one word the “Business Notebook” Apple. It has all the superlatives: the most powerful processor, the only machine that can accommodate 16 GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD, the most powerful chipset …
But with its 1.6 kg, it is also the heaviest if one puts aside his illustrious predecessor. The target of the MacBook Pro is easy to describe: those who need power first. Of all these machines, is the one that is best suited to be used as the main machine. This seems unthinkable for the MacBook.
Its main weakness is probably due to its chipset: sufficient in many cases, but probably too tight if we want to do serious things especially in video.
